The latest product that the video and photo platform has unveiled is Snapchat Spectacles. Set to be available in three different colours, Spectacles are described by Snapchat as “sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories.”
As it looks to expand upon its 150 million daily users, Snapchat has introduced several new features over the last 18 months. These include 3D video stickers, which allow users to have a bit of fun with moving images and on-demand geo-filters which allow people to brand specific locations.
Using “one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world,” Snapchat says that Spectacles can capture “a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge.” Captured Snaps can then be shared by connecting to Snapchat via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, allowing users to put the footage into Memories.
The footage, which is captured in Snapchat’s “circular video format,” can be played full screen on any device “in any orientation,” according to the company. Moreover, it has a 115 degree field of view.
As demonstrated by the Snapchat Spectacles announcement video, the device is mostly being positioned as a GoPro-like action camera that allows users to share social moments – such as parties, hangouts and, in that case, skateboarding.
However, Spectacles could also make its easier for you to share footage with your customers. As we have previously mentioned on the blog, Snapchat can be used by businesses for behind the scenes looks at your work process as well as what new products or services you have in development – all your employees will have to do in order to do this is pop on the Spectacles, hit record and share.
Snapchat Spectacles will cost $130 and a release date has not been announced, though they are expected to launch this year.
